Louis, Jacques, Maurice, Armand, Denis, Arsene, Pierre and Jules are called to serve in the army. Eight friends, about thirty years old, from the same little town and assigned to the same infantry regiment. Together, they discover the first battles, the first doubts and the first absurd orders...

It's a starting point of four long years where some of them will return home, and some not...
